
GeGeGe no Kitarō ~Kappa no Terraforming Planetarium Anime Previewed in Video – News
Toei Animation has started streaming a promotional video for the new anime, GeGeGe no Kitarō ~Kappa no Terraforming. This anime is part of the GeGeGe no Kitarō franchise and will be screened at various planetariums and science museums in Japan, starting from Saturday. The animation studio has also announced that the anime will be available outside of Japan at a later date.
The story of GeGeGe no Kitarō ~Kappa no Terraforming follows Sora Yamamoto, an employee of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and a kappa named Kaasuke. Both dream of going to space, and Yamamoto aims to make the kappa an astronaut who can terraform Mars. The characters are voiced by talented actors, including Yūsuke Numata as Sora Yamamoto, Daisuke Sakaguchi as Kaasuke, Yukiko Motoyoshi as Josephine, and Toshio Furukawa reprising his role as Nezumi Otoko. Other characters from the GeGeGe no Kitarō series will also make an appearance.
Setsuko Shibuichi directed the anime, while Hiroshi Ohnogi wrote the script. This anime is the sixth in the GeGeGe no Kitarō franchise to be screened in planetariums and is part of the 100-year anniversary project of Shigeru Mizuki’s birth. Mizuki, the creator of the GeGeGe no Kitarō manga, passed away in 2015 at the age of 93. Another project in this anniversary celebration is a new anime adaptation of Akuma Kun, which will be released on Netflix on November 9.
Additionally, a new film titled Kitarō Tanjō: Gegege no Nazo (Kintarō Birth: The Mystery of Gegege) is also part of the anniversary project. This film is set to open in Japan on November 17.
The previous GeGeGe no Kitarō anime premiered in April 2018 and ended its run in March 2020 after 97 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired.
